Dignity/Washington is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved companion and friend, Eddie Weingart. Eddie’s decade of participation in the Dignity/Washington community – including time on the Board of Directors, Book Club, Liturgy Committee, Tables for Six and other social events – enriched the life of our community, particularly as Chairman of the Liturgy Committee, working with spirit to increase the inclusivity of Dignity/Washington’s Mass.
Eddie’s dedicated and tireless activism on behalf of gun-control legislation was an additional source of inspiration to activists in progressive causes within and beyond Dignity/Washington. He came to us from Southern California in 2008; was a massage therapist; and founded and served as Chairman of Project End Gun Violence from 2012 until his passing. In 2013, he was given the “Be the Change” award by the Washington Peace Center.
Eddie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 3, Noon, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. More details will follow in the days to come but please mark your calendars and tell others who may want to know. A final communication will be sent out next Thursday, prior to Saturday’s memorial; details will also be listed on the Dignity/Washington Facebook page.
If you would like to contribute to the chapter to help offset the costs of Eddie’s funeral, please make your checks payable to Dignity/Washington and put “Weingart funeral” in the memo line. Board members will be available before and after mass on Sunday to receive donations. If you have questions, please reach out to Vin Testa at email@example.com.
Dignity/Washington is an inclusive, safe, and comforting place; therefore if anyone feels the need for grief counseling or additional care at this time, please call the Dignity/Washington line (202-546-2235) and leave your name at the Pastoral Care voice mailbox.
